Hello, I’m Sofia :)

For over a decade, I’ve documented some of life’s most meaningful celebrations, with Japan at the heart of my work. I’ve photographed extensively across the country, from the subtropical landscapes of Okinawa to historic cities, rural regions, and the northern reaches of Hokkaido. This breadth of experience has given me an intimate understanding of Japan’s seasons, light, locations, and cultural rhythms, allowing me to work with ease in both well known destinations and quieter, lesser seen places.

Having photographed hundreds of couples from around the world, I know when to gently guide and when to step back, especially during moments that call for discretion, such as surprise proposals. My background in wedding photography brings a strong sense of awareness, calm, and timing to every session.

I work with both digital and film photography. Film, in particular, holds a special place in my practice. It slows the pace, adds intention, and preserves moments with a softness and permanence that feels timeless.

My path into photography began long before my first commissioned work in 2014, and more than ten years on, the joy of creating has never faded. As a third culture kid Pakistani by heritage, born in the UK, raised in Hong Kong and the UAE, and now based in Japan my perspective has been shaped by constant movement, cultural exchange, and an instinct for observing people within their environments.

When you invite me to photograph your time in Japan, you are trusting me with something deeply personal. My focus is on the details, so you can remain fully present in the experience. I will guide you when needed, blend into the background when it matters most, and capture not just how your day looked, but how it truly felt.
